What is a horse show?

A show for horses and ponies depending on the breed, usually organised by breed associations or local pony breeding associations. It can also be an award ceremony for stallions or mares to assess their conformation and breeding value. The horse or pony is always shown in hand, without a rider or equipment other than a bridle, so that the judge can assess the horse's appearance.

What is judged at a show?

The horse's exterior, divided into different points and scored between 1-10 on each point. You assess the horse's type, head, neck, trunk, limbs and gait. You lead the horse and show it from its best side.

What do I need for a horse show?

To participate in a horse show, a show bridle is a good investment, but also a lead rein in a matching colour. There are special bits that are only used at shows and the showman can wear special clothing.
